Students Digipak
Students examples of DigiPak's
The Advantages of the Digipak
Within the Digipak there is a colour
theme that is used throughout the Digipak therefore it makes the Digipak look
attractive , this will attract the target audience. Moreover this student has remembered to include barcode because
real Digipak's have to have a barcode in order to sell therefore it makes it look
realistic. The Digipak has use of images of the artist this looks appealing to
the eye therefore if this was on the shelf it would make the consumer want to
purchase the Digipak. The use of a quote is simplistic as a fan, may feel a
special connection, to the artist, as this would not be included on a standard
CD. Another important element this student has included on to the Digipak is a
track list and it is written in a similar style on the album, this shows that
thought has gone into creating the Digipak. Lastly from looking at this Digipak it
easy to identify that this is from an alternative rock genre because of the use
of dark colours and the performer is dressed in dark Gothic clothing Dark
clothing is associated with this genre.
Disadvantages of the Digipak
It is clear that the advantages of
this student Digipak outweighs its disadvantages, having said that there is
room for improvement in order for this Digipak to perfect. Firstly it could be
argued that there could be some lyrics so that fans could sing along to the
music. Secondly on the CD the album cover and song could be written on the CD,
to ensure that the artist is consistently present. Lastly the album title is written
small and it is hard to read, this important element of the Digipak that the
consumer should be able to read clearly.
Second Example
The Advantages of the Digipak
The use of colour is effective is it is cannot be associated to no genre. For example the Pop genre would have use of bright colours and an image of the artist. However this Digipak includes neither , therefore it would appeal to the mass market because it is unique. The six panel includes two Cd's the majority of CD Digipaks normally only include one CD therefore this gives the consumer more value for their money because they have been given more than one alternative . The use of art looks aesthetically pleasing as the images compliment both the colours and the image on the album art work. The digipak has been constructed well and looks professional because the have thought outside the box and still managed to include basic elements of a digipak; like a barcode and song track list .
The disadvantages of the Digipak
A disadvantage of this Digipak is there is no image showing what the CD would look like . There are many things that could be included on the CD cover a image of the artist or the continuation on the colour used on the Digipak.

Contingency Plans
Contingency Plan If the plan for filming does not go to plan then we need to create a back up one which will be just as good, but will be more suited and avoidable of problems. In our urban scenes we intend on using locations such as busy Oxford Street, South Bank underpass, London Tunnels and Truckerdero as these locations capture the urban feel that we wish to portray as well as featuring the general public in the back doing activities specific to those areas. For example on the south bank underpass there is lots of graffiti and people skateboarding also within the Truckerdero there are people break dancing, these aspects will add to the verisimilitude of the urban atmosphere that is showcased within the video. If these locations are unable to be accessed due to timing or costs we could potentially use similar locations that are closer and cheaper to access that will also create the same atmosphere. We could go to Brixton skating zone, which also has graffiti and skateboarders.
For the tunnels we could use South Norwood underpass as this has a dirty and gritty ambience which will have the same atmosphere as the South bank however it will be less lively. Instead of using Oxford Street we could also use Croydon high street as we could use this setting to create the same isolated image which we intend on creating on Oxford Street. For the house setting if we are unable to use a home we will have to create and show the same emotion using a different location, the best possible place that will still show the highs and lows of a relationship between a male and a female would be them going out for dinner illustrating the highs of a relationship and the couple in the street having an argument showing the lows of a relationship and this change in scene could symbolise the change in mood.
As there are 2 main settings the problems that may arise are very unlikely however if there are the contingent plans are suitable and allow the same constructed image to be shown. Another potential problem that may take place are regarding the characters, if we are unable to find characters or mutual times for filming we may be unable to shoot our narrative scenes, therefore we will have to eliminate this aspect of our music video and make it a simple performance video. This is a possible idea however we will have to use different locations and have the artist portray emotion rather than simply performing. We will also have to use more of a variety of camera shots as well as editing techniques in order to prevent the video becoming tedious. As our video contains ideas that have little potential problems it is very unlikely that our contingency plan will take place however if it does then we will be able to create a video that is still of the same high standard and creates the same ambience and showcases the same idea.

Ideal Treatment
My group and I are creating a music video to a melodic hip hop song. The song is about being in love and getting high and we wish to portray element of this within our music video. Our video will have a series of settings, characters, props and shot types. This video will be a hybrid between narrative and performance it will have a linear narrative showcasing a couple’s relationship, it will demonstrate the highs and lows in a relationship which relates to the song as it is about being in love, however it will also intertextualise the highs and lows of getting high. This video will also contain many aspects of performance which will take place in urban areas such as busy high streets, tunnels, and hidden spaces. We have chosen these particular locations as it would be a convention of the hip hop genre. We intend on using very stereotypical hip hop costume for the male and female characters, this means that the male will appear to have wealth by wearing the latest and most stylish costume associated with this genre. The female will purposely be wearing revealing costume as this will create an over sexualised image of her which is a common idea within the hip hop genre. We will be using very realistic props within our music video however they will all have relevance and be used to create a sense of verisimilitude. Examples of the props we will need to use will be mobile phones, a roll up spliff, a vase and others that will add to a setting a used within a scene. The most important feature within our music video that will cause it to reach it potential and allow us to capture and emphasise on aspects of the video which are necessary will be the camerawork and editing. We will be using lots of camera work that is commonly used within the hip hop genre in order to make our video fit in with the genre. The shot types that will be used the most throughout the video would be close ups, wide shots and long shots, this is because the create emotion such as isolation, they can promote empathy with the audience and they also capture the setting surroundings as well as those being the main shot types within hip hop music videos. We will also be using; low angle shots, panning and zoom in’s to create the image of superiority. The editing techniques that will be used will be slow motion and black and white filter and these will exaggerate aspects of the video create a more intense atmosphere. All of these aspects combined will allow us to create a music video that will be emotive and powerful in regards to the narrative and performance as well as fitting in with the genre of hip hop and will look as realistic as possible using our knowledge of editing and camera skills.

Research
I researched a few websites and looked at 100 greatest music videos , to see if I could notice some conventions. Many of the artist that where at the top of the threshold where from a pop genre , this may be a representation of what people like . I have print screened some of the information I have found .

Brief
Brief
In class today we were told that we have to produce a Promotional package for a release of an album . The brief consists of me creating an music video to help promote music created by a band. A website homepage for the band also needs to be produced. Other synergies need to be created by the group to help audience awareness for example a Digi Pak that consists of a CD or DVD ; another task set in the brief is to make a CD cover for the bands release . I like this brief because it is unique and it would be interesting to learn the skills required to produce a music video . I can incorporate the skills that I have learnt from the film Industry to produce a music video . In class today I have viewed previous students work , to see the different tasks needed in order to produce a music video at exceptional standard .
